OUR STORY
Gateway Search Dogs was founded in 2002 by Kathy Roeder, a local woman who recognized the need for professionally trained search dogs, handlers, and field support to assist law enforcement in searches for the missing and deceased. Since its inception, Gateway has grown into an organization capable of fielding teams for all manner of searches. Our teams were on scene during the aftermath of the Joplin tornado. We have been called out to search for the missing after floods, and relied upon to help find children who have wandered away. Canine search and rescue is more than just a volunteer vocation….it’s a way of life. Every person on this team is dedicated to the motto that defines search and rescue: So others may live.
OUR MISSION
Gateway Search Dogs, Inc. is an all-volunteer, not for profit corporation. Our mission is twofold: first, to assist law enforcement to locate the lost or missing utilizing highly trained tracking/trailing, area search and human remains detection K9 teams. Second, we educate the public regarding the prevention of or the response to a missing loved one. These goals remain unchanged. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a charge for our services.
